Checking Your Registration

This article explains how to use BallotReady's "Check Registration" tool.

  • Step 1: On the homepage of the site, enter your home address into the search bar and click on the “Get Started” button.

  • Step 2a: If the site shows the image below (with your address), skip to step 3:

  • Step 2b: If the site is an Election Center, it will show the homepage shown in the image below. Click on the tile that says "Check Registration":

  • Step 3: Determine if you are registering to vote or checking your voter registration status
    • If you are registering to vote, continue to Step 4. If you are checking your voter registration status, skip to Step 5.

  • Step 4: Registering to Vote
    • Step 4a: Click on the "Register to Vote" tile. Then click Next.

    • Step 4b: Select which how you would want to register, either online or through email

    • Step 4c: (**If you selected to "Receive Voter Registration Form by Email", skip to step 4d**). Select "Register Online" and then click "Next". This will redirect you to your state's registration tool (this site will vary by state)
    • Step 4d: Select "Receive Voter Registration Form by Email". Enter in your email address, and then "Next". The last screen explains that your state's voter registration form will be sent to your email.

**IF YOU ARE JUST REGISTERING TO VOTE, STOP HERE**

**IF YOU ARE CHECKING YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION, GO TO STEP 5**

  • Step 5:  Checking Your Voter Registration Status
    • Step 5a: Click on "Check my voter registration status". Then, click Next.

    • Step 5b: Enter in your first name, last name, and date of birth. Then, click "Verify"

    • Step 5c: (**If you do not see the below screen, skip to step 5d**) If you're registered, you'll see a screen that says "You're registered here" (below). You can click "Next" and then enter in your email and phone number if you want to be updated about deadlines and next steps

    • Step 5d: If you're not registered, you'll see a screen that says that it doesn't see a match for the address provided (below).
      • You'll have the option to (1) register through Secretary of State's website, (2) verify your registration through your state's voter registration tool, OR (3) you can continue the process of making a plan to vote if you're 100% sure you're registered at the address you provided.

      • Whenever you've made a decision, click "Next". You'll be prompted to enter in your email so more information can be sent. You will also be redirected to your state's voter registration tools where you can further check registration or start the process of registering to vote
